The solo exhibition “NOw/here” comprises two series of new paintings by Gian Maria Tosatti, one of the most renowned Italian artists of his generation. The show is being realized following the ambitious environmental intervention that the artist created in 2022 for the Italian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.
The exhibition project, conceived in close dialogue with the industrial architecture of Pirelli HangarBicocca, reveals a new and unprecedented aspect of Tosatti’s artistic practice that presents the visitor with two-dimensional works in which he uses an abstract language which has its roots in the Western tradition of painting. The large-size canvases with a powerful visual impact are able to transform the space of the Shed through the material and symbolic potential of elements like gold and rust.
The corpus of works is also presented in this monograph devoted to Gian Maria Tosatti that retraces his artistic career from the beginning through previously unpublished texts and illustrations. With the exhibition and with this publication, Pirelli is maintaining its commitment to supporting the experimentation and research of artists capable of generating reflections on today’s world and on the human condition, by means of narratives that speak to wide and diverse audiences.
