The volume comes out on the occasion of the rearrangement of the Doge's Room, one of the most spectacular and evocative rooms of the building which will return to its Renaissance splendor with the relocation of the Greek and Roman statuary part of the Grimani collection.
Palazzo Grimani is an architectural unicum of Venice, just as its history is unique. Built in the early sixteenth century in Mannerist style, a more unique than rare case in the city, it was the home of a very important patrician family, which included among its exponents Patriarchs, Cardinals, Doges and Procurators, passionate collectors of Greek and Roman antiquities. A vast and very prestigious collection, that of the Grimani, which on the death of Patriarch Giovanni, in 1596, was donated to the Serenissima Republic and placed inside the Marciana Library, where it has been exhibited until today. A lucky chance, given by the long restoration of the ceiling of the room where the Grimani collection is usually kept, today allows this admirable collection to be brought back to its place of origin, Palazzo Grimani, which in the meantime has become a state museum. The catalog explores the history of the Grimani collection and reveals its extraordinary beauty, also thanks to an important photographic campaign created for the occasion.
