«Lucia Veronesi’s work, La desinenza estinta, intersects different techniques, knowledge and disciplines such as textile art, ethnobotany, ethnolinguistics, medical anthropology and ecology». Manfredi Bortoluzzi, anthropologist
This is the contemporary look that Lucia Veronesi (Mantua, 1976) describes in La desinenza estinta, an artistic project focused on cultural cancellation that ranges between science, language and activism. Winner of the twelfth edition (2023) of Italian Council, a program that promotes Italian contemporary art in the world, the work will enter the civic collections of the Ca’ Pesaro Museum in Venice. The extinct ending consists in a reflection on the relationship between the history of science to women, the sociopolitical implications, botany and the extinction of language.
Three are the components of the project, complementary but at the same time autonomous: a large tapestry jacquard, which summarizes the outcome of the archival research carried out by the artist between 2023 and 2024; a video installation that documents the creative process of the work; the volume Lucia Veronesi. The extinct ending, published by Marsilio Arte by Paolo Mele and Claudio Zecchi, respectively director and artistic director of Ramdom, and by the artist herself. These three elements dialogue with each other and integrate with each other, thus creating a visual narrative that through collages, drawings and archive photos evokes images of the past and raises questions about the present, in which the illustrations are the real protagonists and the narrative thread of the story.
