Thanks to the generous contribution of Roger Thomas and Arthur Libera, Venetian Heritage has supported the restoration of a bust depicting EcceHomo kept in the Prison Depots of the Doge’s Palace, and financed the present volume, which accompanies the exhibition Ecce Homo. A Bust of Filippo Parodi Restored by Venetian Heritage.
Based on the studies of Maichol Clemente, the volume and the exhibition illustrate the career and production of the Genoese sculptor Filippo Parodi, active in the Serenissima between 1683 and 1694, after having worked in Rome. Parodi was responsible for spreading the influence of Bernini and of early Rococo in Venice, and his crucial role in the history of sculpture in Venice deserves to be fully acknowledged.Once again, Venetian Heritage is in the forefront of the effort to promote the restoration and study of important but neglected aspects of Venetian sculpture. This special exhibition was organized in particular to celebrate the recovery of a forgotten bust by Filippo Parodi, with the collaboration of the Soprintendenza Archeologia, belle arti e paesaggio per il Comune di Venezia e Laguna, the Fondazione Musei Civici and the Direzione regionale Musei Veneto.
